Streamline your internal audits and ensure the highest quality
What is Internal Audit ISO 19011?
ISO 19011 is an international standard that provides guidance on how to conduct internal audits of management systems. It is used by companies and organizations to plan, conduct and follow up audits according to various ISO standards.
ISO 19011 internal audits are used to:
- Ensure that operations meet quality, environmental and health and safety requirements
- Identify areas for improvement and reduce operational risks
- Prepare for third-party audits and certifications
ISO 19011 guides the auditing of several ISO standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
ISO 45001 occupational health and safety audits use it to ensure that occupational health and safety processes are in line with current requirements and are continuously improved.
ISO 19011 contains seven main chapters:
1. Extent
Defines the scope of the standard.
2. Normative references
Refers to related standards and guidelines.
3. Terms and definitions
Explains key terms used in the standard.
4. Auditing Principles
Basic principles for effective audits.
5. Lead an audit program
How audits are planned, conducted and monitored.
6. Carry out an audit
Steps for conducting an audit, from inception to reporting.
7. Expertise and assessment of auditors
Requirements for the competence and assessment of auditors.
Training in internal audit ISO 19011
Internal auditing is a requirement of several ISO standards, including ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). By following the guidelines of ISO 19011, audits can be carried out systematically to ensure that management systems are working effectively and that areas for improvement are identified.
Our ISO 19011 internal audit training provides practical knowledge on how to perform audits according to this guidance and how it can be applied to review business processes.
The training covers:
- Audit principles and methods according to ISO 19011
- Planning, conducting and reporting internal audits
- Identifying non-conformities and opportunities for improvement
- Applying ISO 19011 to audits such as ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety
Structure of the training
The training is designed to provide a thorough understanding of internal auditing according to ISO 19011 and its practical application in different industries.
It lasts three days and includes both theoretical briefings and practical exercises.
- Structure and methodology – The course is based on the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology to ensure a systematic and efficient audit process.
- Application of standards – The course also covers the requirements of more advanced standards such as ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and AS 9100, providing a broad understanding of how internal audits can be used in different areas.
- Practical elements – Participants complete realistic case exercises where they learn to analyze, identify and manage non-conformities and follow up on audit results.
Internal audit - What, why and who
Internal audits, unlike ISO 19011, are a general concept used in several different management systems. The purpose is to review and evaluate an organization’s processes to ensure that they comply with both internal guidelines and external requirements.
Internal audits are used in standards such as ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). Through regular audits, organizations can identify non-conformities, areas for improvement and ensure that operations are functioning according to set objectives and requirements.
To achieve this, audits are carried out either by internal staff or by external auditors. An effective internal audit requires the right skills, methodology and a structured process to ensure objectivity and reliable results.
